Snoring and Sleep Apnea

Of all Americans over the age of forty, 60 percent snore. These disorders can greatly affect one's waking hours, causing stress, irritability, depression, inefficiency at work, and accidents at home.

Adults are not the only ones affected by sleep disorders; snoring is associated with higher levels of inattention and hyperactivity in children. Eighty-one percent of children who both snore and have ADHD could be cured of the ADHD if their habitual snoring were eliminated.

Though CPAP devices have been very effective in the control of sleep apnea, 50 to 75 percent of those who try the CPAP either reject it or are intolerant of it. Oral appliances offer an alternative for the control of both snoring and mild to moderate sleep apnea. These appliances work by preventing the tissues at the base of the tongue from collapsing and obstructing the airway during sleep.
